The Boy

funsizebytes:

…is 7.5 years old, and doesn’t know how to blow his nose.

He does, however, know how to sniff.

Sniff.

Sniff.

Sniff.

It’s more than a little annoying. Oh, and something something compassion for his suffering too.

Especially when he then coughs, presumably because he’s sniffed post-nasal drip into his mouth.

(Yuck.)

I’m unaware of how to teach another human being how to blow his nose.

We’ve tried to explain it to him, but all he does is inhale through his nose.

Or cough.

Surely he isn’t the first kid who has had trouble with this.

How did you other parents do it?

Well, I am no parent, so the question wasn’t direcred at me. My parents did, however, but a piece of paper over my nose, after which they said “blow”. And so I did, else they’d chase me around and command me each time I sniffed.

  1. themiw answered: I still can’t blow my nose properly. It feels like my ears are going to explode. I’m 32..
  2. troubledbyinsects answered: I didn’t learn how to blow my nose for a long time. I also can’t dive into swimming pools. I think they correlate.
  3. carmenlsigman answered: My mom still yells at me about this whenever I see her and I’m sick. ISays Ill get an infection if I dont blow. I just forget. Goodluck!

  5. cssboy answered: With ours, it was mostly curiosity I think. We pretended it bothered us like everything else we want him to do all the time. Fingers crossed.
  6. fatherjack answered: earplugs. (alternatively, can be applied to the patients nose).
  7. nicky36 answered: I have a nice montessori lesson for it, but it is probably more effective for 3 year olds. Chat me if you are actually interested.
  8. monkeyfrog answered: Oh jeez. We battled and battled over this. I finally told the Boy he would get a brain infection if he didn’t blow. He still wouldn’t do it.
  9. piscesinpurple answered: I have precisely this issue with my brother. He turned 30 in September.
